LEWISTON – Lorraine Cora Leonard, 75, of Poland, died Thursday evening, July 28, at d’Youville Pavilion, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born and raised in the Lewiston/Auburn area, the daughter of Leo and Marguerite Therrien Girardin. She graduated from Edward Little High School.

She and her husband of 50 years, Wilford E. Leonard Sr., were the proprietors of Summit Golf Course in Poland for more than 40 years. She will be forever remembered there by members, employees and family for her kindness, gentle spirit and caring nature. She ran the pro shop with absolute grace and dignity. She enjoyed golfing at Summit Golf Course with her family – enjoying the beautiful scenic views.

She was also known by her neighbors for her generosity to stray animals, and to the birds and ducks that inhabited the area. When she and her husband traveled south in the winter, she would provide her neighbors with food to feed the stray animals and birds left without her care until she returned. She will be forever remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Wilford “Bill” E. Leonard Sr., of Poland; Wilford “Bill” Jr., of Poland; Mary of Boston, Mass.; and three grandchildren, William and his wife, Shannon, and their four children, all of Rumford, Ryan and his son, Cole, of Oxford, and Heather of Kansas.
