WEBSTER, Mass. – Grace E. Hamm Cole, 92, of Webster, Mass., died Monday, Aug. 1, at Hubbard Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born in Bangor, she moved to the greater Boston area where she began her career in nursing.
She retired to a life of enjoying her grandchildren and reading, and she was an avid Red Sox fan for life.
Wife of the late Alton M. Cole Sr., she is survived by three daughters, Viola Scott of Webster, Mass., Ellen Murphy of Weymouth, Mass., and Sharon McKenzie of Newington, Conn.; a special stepson, Alan Cole of Revere, Mass.; a sister, Lillian LaBelle of Old Town; two brothers, William Hamm of Webster, Mass., and Phillip Hamm of Bangor; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandsons, and one “on the way”; along with many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five sons, Alton M. I, Lawrence W., Ronald F., Roger L. and Alton M. II “Jr.”; two daughters, Frances Hattie Cole and Dorothy Conley; her mother, Harriet (Gray) Hamm; her father, Freeman L. Hamm Sr.; two sisters, Viola Anderson and Hattie “Pat” Bowden; and three brothers, Lawrence Hamm, Freeman L. Hamm Jr., and Calvin Hamm.
