TURNER – The Turner Center for the Arts will hold its grand opening Autumn Open Juried Exhibit on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Housed in what is now the cultural center for the town, the Center for the Arts is on the first and second floors of the Leavitt Institute Building. The new Turner Public Library is on the third floor, and the community’s historical museum is on the top floor. The building has an elevator and is fully accessible.

A call for artists has been issued for the opening show, which will run through Nov. 18. Work may be delivered to the center on Turner Center Road (Route 117) for jury consideration on Sept. 16, 17 and 18 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The jury fee is $20 per artist, with a limit of three works per artist. The grand opening artists’ reception will begin at 2 p.m., with the show running in the galleries until 5 p.m.

The show will accept only paintings and drawings, not photographs. The center committee is planning a separate showing for photography in the future.

Artwork submitted must be original, completed within the past five years and be ready to hang. Applications for showing at the gallery may be picked up when paintings are delivered, and are available on the town office Web site, www.turnermaine.com.

The arts center’s committee is planning a yearlong series of exhibits, including one that will involve students in the Leavitt Area High School art classes.
