RUMFORD – Everett Joseph Gallant, 64, of Mexico, died on Aug. 5, at Rumford Hospital.

He was born in Rumford, Dec. 2, 1940, the son of Peter Thomas and Doritha Marie (DesRoches) Gallant. He attended St. Theresa’s and graduated from Mexico High School.

He moved to Massachusetts and worked for Polaroid. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and there owned and operated a guest house. He moved to the island of Vieques, and owned and operated many cafes. He was also a chef at the Tradewinds Guest House and Restaurant.

In the 35 years he spent in Puerto Rico, he developed many close friendships. He retired to Maine in April 2005.

He is survived by two brothers, Francis and his wife, Eileen Gallant, of Bangor, and Eugene Gallant of Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Gerard “Sonny” Gallant and Roger “Slugger” Gallant’ and a sister, Geraldine “Gerry” (Gallant) Bither.
