SABATTUS – Residents living in and around the Sabattus area can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke. Life Line Screening will be at the Sabattus Central School, 40 Ball Park Road, on Thursday, Aug. 25. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.

A stroke, also known as a “brain attack,” is ranked as the third leading killer in the world, and the second among women.

Through preventive screenings, the risk of having a stroke can be reduced.

Screenings involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, which can lead to a stroke; aortic aneurysms, which can lead to a ruptured aorta; and hardening of the arteries in the legs, which are a predictor of heart disease. Also offered is a bone density screening to assess risk for osteoporosis.

Each screening requires 10 minutes or less to complete. A complete vascular screening package, including the stroke/carotid artery, abdominal aortic aneurysm and ankle brachial index (hardening of the arteries), screenings is $109. Sign-up for a vascular package and osteoporosis screening is $129.
