PORTLAND (AP) – Three young men were arraigned Friday on manslaughter charges stemming from the fatal beating of a Westbrook man outside a tavern.

Wade DePalma, 19, and Nicholas Lavigne, 19, both of Westbrook, and Alexander Layug, 18, of Portland, entered no pleas during their appearance in Cumberland County Superior Court.

Police said the three men beat Douglas Wilcox, 33, on July 3. Wilcox declined to cooperate with investigators and left the Maine Medical Center against doctors’ recommendations. He died from his injuries four days after the attack.

Family members say Wilcox’s jaw, eye socket and cheekbone were broken and his skull was fractured in the confrontation.
