LEWISTON – Michael A. Goff, 77, of 29 Tarr Ave., Lewiston, died Friday, Aug. 12, at d’Youville Pavilion, following a long illness.
He was born in Lewiston, on Aug. 19, 1927, the son of Michael E. and Eva Lemieux Goff. He was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of ’45.
He went to serve his country in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1945 to 1947 as a topographical draftsman.
In 1947, he married Barbara R. Walton of Lewiston.
He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Parish, as well as a member of the St. Patrick’s Men’s Club.
Michael was employed with the Sun Journal in 1943 starting as summer help, and in 1948 joined the newspaper full time as member of the press crew. In 1975, he was promoted to the position of foreman of the Lewiston Evening Journal press crew.
Michael was coach for the St. Patrick’s Youth Hockey League for 25 years, as well as co-coaching the youth basketball for a short time.
He leaves behind his wife, Barbara; a son, Michael T. and fiance, Julie Ouellette, of Auburn; a grandson, Thomas Croteau, and a son-in-law, Paul Croteau of Lewiston; and a cousin, Mary Elaine Warren of Auburn.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Jayne Goff Croteau on Jan. 19, 2001; his father, Michael E. Goff in 1931; his mother, Eva Bonneau; and a stepfather, Timothy Bonneau.
