FARMINGTON – Retired Salem Police Officer Paul M. LeBlanc, 64, of Rangeley, president of Pumel Enterprises, and formerly of Salem, Mass., died at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington, early Friday morning, Aug. 12. He was the former husband of Carole (LeBrun) (LeBlanc) Isaacson and Marilyn (Haley) LeBlanc.
Born in Salem, Mass., the son of the late Arthur and Bertha (Belanger) LeBlanc. He was raised in Salem and educated at St. Mary’s Grammar School, Salem. He graduated from St. John’s Prep, Danvers, in 1958, and then attended Merrimac College.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served aboard the USS Waccaman (AO-109) during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and remained active with the United Sates Naval Reserve for several years.
Following his discharge, he was employed as a route driver for the H.P. Hood Milk Co., married his wife Carole, and settled in Salem on Intervale Road where they raised their family.
In 1974, he was appointed to the Salem Police Department by Mayor Levesque and sworn in on Sept. 1, 1974, by then Marshall Connolly. For many years he served the City of Salem as both a police officer and as an EMT until his retirement on Oct. 6, 1996.
He had also been a member of the Blue Knights motorcycle riding organization.
In the late 1970s, Officer LeBlanc began a snowplowing business with his sons. By the early 1980s, the business had grown with his two sons working with him and became established as Pumel Enterprises. Since then, the business has continued to serve the North Shore area as an excavating contractor.
Paul had a great sense of humor and loved people. His wonderful gift of helping others with his “can do” attitude helped them figure out how to accomplish almost any task.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed spending time in Rangeley. In Maine, he was able to pursue his passion for hunting, snowmobiling and riding ATVs. He was a member of both the Rangeley Rotary Club and the Rangeley Lakes Snowmobiling Club.
Several years ago he became a NASCAR racing fan, bought a motor home and since that time has followed the racing circuit around the county. This past July, he traveled to the Lake George Americade events.
Officer LeBlanc is survived by three children, Kimberly Lyons of Salem, Mass., Steven P. and his wife, Janine Racanovic, of Salisbury, Mass., and Brian J. LeBlanc of Ipswich, Mass.; three grandchildren, Keith Lyons of Peabody, Mass., Keira Lyons of Salem, Mass., and Hannah Barnes LeBlanc of Swampscott, Mass.; a brother, Arthur and his wife, Angela LeBlanc, of Kennebunk; his former wives, Carole (LeBrun) (LeBlanc) Isaacson of Peabody, Mass., and Marilyn (Haley) LeBlanc of Danvers, Mass.; a former son-in-law, Charles Lyons of Peabody, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
