Bridge play
NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club played Friday. Overall winners for the morning were: first, Bill Bowman and Adele Bendes; second, Georgette Jewell and Pat Quinn. Placing were: Carol Curran and Kathy Feld, Eleanor Griffin and Jim Dickens, Barbara and Paul Beegel.
Duplicate bridge is played at 9 a.m. every Friday at Fare Share Coop Commons, 445 Main St. Refreshments are served, and a partner is guaranteed. Parking and entrance are behind the building. For more information, call Les at 783-4153 or Mimi at 743-8081.
Derby racing
WEST PARIS – West Paris Downhill Derby Racing will take place Sunday, Aug. 21, at “Derby Hill” on Kingsbury Street beside the town office. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m. with racing to begin at 11 a.m.
The event is for children ages 7 to 17 and spare cars are available. New drivers are welcome. Those wanting information or reservations should call Cindi at 674-3507 or Nancy at 674 2936.
All participants will be recognized. The Derby Snack Shack will sell food all day. Food donations for snack shack are needed, and old trophies are being collected for recycling.
Summer social
PARIS – The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will hold the annual summer social from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at the South Paris Fire Station. Anyone wishing to take part in the noon potluck luncheon is requested to provide a potluck dish. The “Tori” (gift shop) will be available and afternoon entertainment will be provided.
Tomato week
NORWAY – Aug. 22 to 28 will be Maine’s third annual Tomato Tasting Week. People can visit Harrison Farmers’ Market from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, Norway Farmers’ Market from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, or all week long from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Maple Springs Farm in Harrison.
Participants will include Little Falls Farm and Maple Springs Farm in Harrison and Harvest Moon Farm in West Paris.
