AUBURN – Two men hurt in an early morning brawl Wednesday on Lake Street were treated for their wounds and later released. Police said one man was stabbed in the stomach and another was punched during the 1 a.m. scrap near the corner of Lake and Court streets.

Neither injury was considered life-threatening. No charges were filed. Police declined to identify either of the men, ages 20 and 26 years old.

“We’re still sifting through all the facts,” said Auburn police Capt. Kevin Mulherin. The captain said the case will likely be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for possible prosecution. Police said the two men squared off in the street early Wednesday and that a third person stepped in between them.

At some point during the fight, one man was stabbed and the other punched at least once.

The stabbing victim was found on a sidewalk at the scene. A second man was located nearby and another was picked up by police a short distance from the area.

Each of those men was questioned about the fight on Wednesday. Police did not say what led to the fight. Investigators are familiar with the combatants and said each is from the Auburn area.
