STRONG – Deputies are looking for vandals who spray-painted the Strong Elementary School with gang-like graffiti markings and threatened in writing that a “shooting is coming – believe,” a sheriff’s deputy said Wednesday.

Vandals also struck E.J.’s Market in Strong, spray-painting some symbols on the building and ripping down a store sign and tipping over the soda machine, Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Michelle St. Claire said. The criminal mischief on both the school and the market located on North Main Street happened Tuesday night or early Wednesday, she said.

The vandals used five different colors of spray paint: black, white, green, red and orange, St. Claire said. It appears they got on the school roof to write on two different parts of the school up near the roof, she said.

“It’s pretty extensive,” St. Claire said.

DNA evidence was collected at the school and market and will be taken to the state crime laboratory for analysis, she said. Several deputies are working on the ongoing investigation.

Deputies are looking for assistance to help solve the case, St. Claire said. People who saw anything suspicious around the school or market Tuesday night or early Wednesday are asked to call St. Claire or Detective Tom White at the sheriff’s office at 779-2680.
