Society speaker

PARIS – The Paris Hill Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at the Historical Society building, Tremont Street. Julie DeMont will talk about her father, MG Lawrence E. “Bud” Schlanser, and his early days in the U.S. Cavalry. Although not a Paris native, the general spent many summers on Paris Hill and was affectionately regarded by many of its residents. The public is invited.

Final sale

WATERFORD – The final Indoor Yard Sale of the summer will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Wilkins Community House basement, foot of Plummer Hill Road. For more information, call Karen Fillebrown at 583-2320.

Tannery reunion

PARIS – ACL Tannery reunion will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the South Paris Legion Hall. The menu will include ham, roast beef, peas, carrots, pie, coleslaw and mashed potatoes. Easter family

NEWRY – The Easter family met at the Newry Grange Hall for the annual reunion on July 30. A potluck dinner was served.

There were more than 60 members of the family present coming from North Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine. The following day, many gathered at the home of Gerald and Connie Easter for breakfast/brunch and more visiting.

New year they will meet again the last weekend of July.

New officers

WEST PARIS – The Ring McKeen Post 151 Auxiliary officers were installed at the last meeting as follows: president, Ivana Grover; first vice president, Dian Rainey; second vice president, Patricia Breame; secretary, Charmaine Penley; treasurer, Cleo Ryerson; chaplain, Bertha DeHaas; sergeant-at-arms, Jackie Stevens; co-historians, Elsie Haynes and Cleo Ryerson.
