AUBURN – State Sen. Lois Snowe-Mello of Poland will host an informational session on the state’s circuit-breaker tax relief program from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Auburn Hall.

State Rep. Pat Flood of Winthrop, a business consultant, will be available to share his expertise on the new eligibility standards and how tax refunds are calculated.

The program is not the same as the state’s homestead tax exemption program; it’s in addition to it. Approximately 50 percent of Maine’s households are eligible for the circuit-breaker program.

If a person’s adjusted individual earnings are less than $74,500 – $99,500 for a family – and the person’s property taxes are more than 4 percent of his or her income, or the rent is more than 20 percent of income, that person probably qualifies for a refund.

For more information, people may call Snowe-Mello at 784-9136.

Auburn Hall is at 60 Court St. Parking is available on the third level of the parking garage directly behind the building. People can take the walkway to the second floor of the building. The informational session will be in Room 204.
