Church picnic
OTISFIELD – There will be a church picnic for the community and family at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church on Rayville Road, Sunday, Aug. 28. The service will begin at 10 a.m. with the picnic to follow. Those attending should bring a bag lunch. Peanuts, popcorn, punch and ice cream will be provided. Elder issues
BRIDGTON – A special program for all caregivers will be presented by Carol Rancourt and Stan Cohen from the Southern Maine Agency on Aging at the Elder Network Lunch at noon Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Bridgton Community Center. The speakers will discuss the new Medicare prescription drug program.
Chinese auction
PARIS – A Chinese auction will be held at Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, Saturday, Sept. 17. Doors open at 10 a.m. and auction starts at 1 p.m. There will be hundreds of items and gift certificates, large item raffle, 50/50, grab bags, bake sale and lunch deals. Family reunion
PARIS – The second annual Card family reunion was held July 16 at the home of Chuck and Margi Martin of South Paris. More than 65 descendents of LeBaron and Lila Dodge Card’s children, Alice, Ida, Peter and Seymour, attended. LeBaron was the son of Isaac and Sophia Forbes Card of Hopewell Cape, N.B. Albert Card and Annette Martin were instrumental in planning the reunion. A pig roast was furnished by Cathy Card Stevenson and her husband, Brent. Special guests included descendents of LeBaron’s brother, Stephen Card, originally from Searsport. Coming the furthest were Jackie Cox from Delaware and Richard Card from Arizona.
Photo exhibit
NORWAY – Misha Tomic will open a photo exhibition of new work at the Commons Art Gallery from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2. He will give a slide lecture on his work at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the gallery. Tomic teaches art at Central Maine Community College and lives at Papoose Pond in North Waterford.
AARP bus tour
PARIS – The Oxford Hills AARP group will be participating in a three-day get-away to Quebec City, April 5 to 7.
An early morning departure will bring the group to Quebec City where there will have a city tour before checking into the Hotel Palace Royal. Dinner will be at L’Astral, a revolving restaurant. Day two will begin with tours and a free afternoon. In the evening, there will be a traditional sugar shack party with folk songs and music. Day three will include shopping and lunch before leaving for home.
The cost per person for double occupancy is $330 and includes two nights hotel, two breakfasts, two dinners, two guided tours, visit to Montmorency Falls and to Ste. Anne de Beaupre and round-trip motor coach transportation.
A deposit of $50/pp is due any time now and this will hold your reservation. The final payment is due Feb. 20. Cancellations can be made up until final payment. There are still seats available for the Lakewood Summer Theater trip for Sept. 14. The fall foliage trip is sold out, but names are being taken for a wait list.
