Post 9150 meeting
LEWISTON – Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will meet at 11 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at the Lewiston Elks Lodge, 1675 Lisbon St. All officers and members should attend. The agenda includes upcoming events, membership, poppy sale, contests for students. Members should note the earlier start time for this meeting.
Concert canceled
AUBURN – Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Fall Festival of Music benefiting Loaves & Fishes to be held at Central Maine Community College on Saturday, Sept. 10, has been cancelled. Anyone with advanced tickets, should call Sister Lucille at 375-8399 for a refund. Organizers said they apologize for the inconvenience.
School initiative
LISBON – Lisbon High School will launch a new aspirations initiative called Academic Aspirations Assemblies this year to motivate students to dream of an academic future beyond high school. The speakers at these monthly assemblies will share their academic experiences and advice on how to build a successful future after high school.
The first assembly will be at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, in the high school gym. Speakers will be naval aviators from the world-famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
Fall registration
TURNER – Turner Head Start, a component of Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, is taking applications for fall. The new year begins on Sept. 12 and enrollment is taking place now.

Bridge games
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at the Multi-Purpose Center on Aug. 22 were: N/S, first, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Anita Perrier and Anna Vitiello; third, Marlene and Conrad Violette; fourth, Claire Tewhey and Charles Bartlett. E/W, first, Nancy Farmer and Michael Newsom; second, Ron Reynolds and Ray Sirois; third, Dick Allen and Richard Balian; first and second tie in B, Patricia Daley and Agnes Winn with Barbara and Bill Whitman.

Card playing
LEWISTON – There will be pinochle and cribbage playing at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., every Thursday until the end of April. Cribbage registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. and games start at 9. Pinochle registration is from noon to 1 p.m. with games starting at 1. Games are free and all are welcome. Bridge results
NEW GLOUCESTER – New Gloucester Bridge Club met Aug. 21 at the Masonic Building where a four-table Howell movement was enjoyed. Finishing first flight A were Darcy Page and Luke Merry with Audrey Burns and Linda Leotsakos second. Third were Betty and Doug Sise. Finishing first in flight B were Linda Leotsakos and Audrey Burns with Betty and Doug Sise second. Another game will be held next Sunday same time, same place and a partner is guaranteed. Yoga classes
LEWISTON – HealthSteps at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center offers a “Yoga for All Levels” class from 5 to 6 p.m. Mondays, Sept. 12 to Oct. 24, at the Lepage large conference room, St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center. Monica Dawe will be the instructor and the cost will be $63.
