Concert to benefit heart association

AUBURN – The Cellar Door will host a benefit concert starting at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, for the American Heart Association.

The money will benefit the efforts of Cadence Darling’s family and friends who are participating in the Central Western Maine Heart Walk. Darling, the daughter of Stephen and Kim Darling of Mechanic Falls, is 14 months old. She was born with a defect that will require open-heart surgery next year, once she reaches 25 pounds.

The Maine Original Rock Showcase (With Heart) will feature local talent, including Taming The Shrew, Driven to Oblivion and Sometimes it Burns. Each band will bring its unique brand of high-energy rock ‘n’ roll to the stage. Each $3 cover charge collected at the door will be donated to the American Heart Association, but promoters have indicated the event is as much to raise money for the association as it is to promote local musical talent.

The concert is for people ages 18 years and older. For more information about the concert, people may call 576-4004. For more information about the American Heart Association and its annual Heart Walk, people may call Roberta Zimmerman at (800) 937-0944.
