FRYEBURG – Marjorie Avis Pitts, 98, of Naples, died Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Fryeburg Health Care Center.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1906, in Naples, a daughter of Frank Orland Pitts and Margaret “Maggie” Edna Rogers Pitts. She went to elementary school in Naples, attended Bridgton Academy and took additional business courses by distance education.

Although she worked briefly at the Lake House in Naples as a young adult, she was stricken ill shortly thereafter and remained confined to her home at Meadowbrook Farm on Harrison Road for most of the rest of her life.

Nevertheless, she was well informed about the news and history of the Naples area, and for many years wrote a local Naples column for the Bridgton News. She was extremely dedicated to her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed life on the farm and organizing family albums. She was very fond of dogs and always had a collie or German shepherd close at hand. Amber, her most recent collie, died June 18.

Surviving are her brother, Loton Pitts; two sisters, Ruth Arline Pitts and Mary Araminta (Pitts) Bennett; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Orland Frank Pitts.
