WAREHAM, Mass. – William G. “Bill” Maynard Jr., 78, passed away unexpectedly Aug. 24, at the Tobey Hospital. He was the husband of the late Helen Ruth (Teachman) Maynard.

Born in Wareham, Mass., March 20, 1927, the son of the late William G. and Ruthabelle (Babbidge) Maynard, he attended Wareham public schools.

He enjoyed family and friends, especially “pizza night.” He also had a strong work ethic and was self-employed as a contractor, running Great Neck Builders of Wareham for many years.

A World War II Army veteran, he was a tech 5 grade with the 15th constabulary squadron. He was also the only surviving member of his immediate family.

Survivors include four daughters and four sons and spouses, Evelyn and John Hickey of Buzzards Bay, Mass., Carol and John Valle of Wareham, Mass., Kay and Wayne Cattabriga of Wareham, Mass., Ruth and Ray Marvel of Wareham, Mass., Guy and Freddie Carbone of Plymouth, Mass., Ray and Connie Carbone of Wareham, Mass., William G. and Martha Maynard of Wareham, Mass., and John and Donette Maynard of West New Portland; and was the father-in-law of Ethelyn “Bunny” Carbone and Bonnie Carbone. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings, Hazel Lewis, Ethelyn Roberts, Evelyn Staab, Phyllis Maynard, Lawrence Maynard, George Maynard, Herbert Maynard and Charles Maynard; two sons, Gerald Carbone and Ralph Carbone; and grandsons, Michael Hickey, Edmund Cattabriga and Gerald Carbone.
