WILTON – Thirty-three members and guests of the Wilton Academy Class of 1950 gathered recently at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay for their 55th reunion. Classmates Leona Bryant Brooks and Joyce Rand Orff made arrangements for the event.
A social time from 4 to 6 p.m. gave people a chance to renew acquaintances and view old yearbooks and other memorabilia on display. A buffet dinner was served.
Keene Swett of Iowa City had updated all of his classmates’ addresses and sent out letters to advise them of the class reunion. Brooks arranged flowers on the tables from the garden of Nellie Davis. Orff prepared a bulletin board with the pictures of the 12 class members who are now deceased: Peggy Watson, Harland Osgood, Frank Welch, Gilbert Keay, Beverly Edwards, Alice Patriquin, Bertha Baker, Grace Brooks, Beverly Soper, Roberta Melendy, Merle Adams and Althea Parker.
Rudy Orff, vice president, conducted a brief meeting when he asked for a moment of silence in memory of the deceased classmates. He then had each classmate tell a little about their families and what they had been doing the past 55 years.
Attending besides those already mentioned: Phil and Norma Trask, New Madison, Ohio; Barbara Maxwell Taylor, Amesbury, Mass.; Peter Cameron and friend, Taunton, Mass.; Roland and Sharon Leach, Howard, Pa.; Joan Swett, Iowa City, Iowa; Gerry Judkins Durrell, South China; Carl and Sylvia Douglas Swanson, Winthrop; Joan Osgood Caouette, Leeds; Evelyn Paine Wilbur, Phillips; Richard Hall and friend, Dixfield; Inez Wheeler, Chesterville; Keith Brooks, Bing and Nancy Crosby, Aurelien and Shirley Davis Couture, Jay; Robert Jellison, Dryden; Donald Allen, Willard and Joan Douglas, Louis and Sondra Smith Gallant, Dana and Barbara Waugh, Wilton.
