Those who don’t understand history are bound to repeat historical mistakes. Conservatives have never understood Vietnam. The truth about Vietnam is that we went into that conflict on a lie (the Gulf of Tonkin incident), the U.S. never had a plan to win and the conflict was unwinnable. Our loss in Vietnam had nothing to do with lack of support for our troops; citizens in the U.S. have always supported our troops. The public will not support a conflict based on lies by political leaders that gets our troops killed.
The conflict in Iraq is based on lies. We brought war to Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction. There were no WMDs. Iraq had nothing to do with the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The lies that President Bush and members of his administration told to get support for the invasion of Iraq have been unmasked. This doesn’t stop Bush from just making up more lies.
The problem with Bush and the neocons is that they know what they believe, and no amount of education, information or intelligence is going to change their beliefs. They almost say, “Don’t confuse the issue with facts.” Bush’s strong beliefs have been unmasked for what they are – ignorance and arrogance. His steadfastness has been shown for what it really is – stubborn, blockheadedness.
