LEWISTON – There will be pinochle and cribbage playing at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., every Thursday until the end of April. Cribbage registration is from 8 to 9 a.m. and games start at 9. Pinochle registration is from noon to 1 p.m. with games starting at 1 p.m. Minimal charge. All are welcome. Religion lessons
HEBRON – The Christian Education Committee at Hebron Community Baptist Church announces the beginning of a new year of Christian lessons for children to start at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 11. Following the Children’s Story during the worship service, children in three groups of 3 to 4, 5 to 7 and 8 to 10 years old will recess to the Children’s Center for classes led by Velma Farnsworth, Nancy Turner and Helen Davidson. GREENE – Frank Klicar will narrate his film, “Undiscovered Wales,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, and 2 and 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the Sawyer Memorial, 371 Sawyer Road. Admission is free, and doors open one hour before shows.
A native of Chicago, Klicar began traveling as a youngster in the late 1940s and since that time has visited more than 88 countries on six continents. He has been on the travelogue circuit for 40 years. For more information call 946-5311.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Aug. 23 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Paul and Sharon Pierce; second, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Bill and Barbara Whitman. Winners in Flight B and C were: first, Bill and Barbara Whitman; second, Doug and Betty Sise.
East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Richard Balian; second, Roger Briggs and Lucille Theriault; third, Jeanine Kivus and Leslie Lord. Winners in Flight B were Luke Merry and Richard Balian.
Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at the Multi-Purpose Center. A partner is guaranteed.
The club also met on Aug. 24 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. North/South winners were: first, Leslie Buzzell Misha Tomic; second, Lucille Bilodeau and Alberta Turner; third, Doug and Betty Sise. Open house
LEWISTON – An open house for South Lewiston Childcare Center is set for 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31. The daycare has been in operation since 1971 and is licensed for 48 students ranging in ages from 2 to 5 years old as well as after school children. Registration will be available at the open house as well as calling the center. Hours are 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The daycare is located at 1919 Lisbon Road. Orchestra rehearsal
WINTHROP – High school and advanced middle school students are welcome to an open rehearsal for the Kennebec Youth Orchestra on Monday, Sept. 19, at Winthrop Congregational Church. There will be an information session for parents at 5 p.m. and rehearsals wiill be from 5 to 6:15 p.m.

AUBURN – The West Auburn School Historical Society held its annual schoolyard sale at the one-room schoolhouse on Aug. 6. President Dick Keene and his wife, Rita, provided lunch for attendees. Prize winners were Mary Buker of Minot, Rosy Hayden and Ruth Stowe of Auburn.
Musicians sought
YARMOUTH – The Maine Youth Orchestra seeks student musicians age 12 to 18 for its 2005-06 season. Auditions are by appointment starting at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Yarmouth High School.
