FARMINGTON – Western Maine Choral Society seeks singers for the 2005-2006 season.

The Monteverdi Singers, a new chorus, will hold open auditions at 6:30 or 8 p.m. on either Tuesday or Wednesday, Aug. 30 and 31, on the second floor of Merrill Hall at UMF.

The choir will perform movements from Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 on the Winter Choral Concert to be held Dec. 3 and 4 and on the Spring Concert to be held April 1 and 2.

In addition, the choir will join the UMF Community Chorus in singing Egil Hovland’s Saul and Benjamin Britten’s, Hymn to the Virgin. The Monteverdi Singers will rehease from 6:30 to 9 p.m. on Mondays.

The UMF Community Chorus, comprised of 120 voices, is looking for singers for its Dec. 3 and 4 Winter Concert. The choir will perform holiday music including Tomas de Vittoria’s, O Magnum Mysterium, Coventry Carol and Carol of the Bells.

Rehearsals and concerts will be held in Nordica Auditorium in Merrill on the UMF campus. There is a $25 fee to participates and the choirs are open to community members, faculty and students.
