WINTHROP – Francis Laurel Nadeau, 83, formerly of Wiscasset, died in Winthrop on Saturday, Aug. 27.

He was born Aug. 23, 1922, in Ashland, a son of William and Elva Duplisea Nadeau. The family moved to Howland when he was two. He attended local schools in Howland.

He served in the U.S. Air Force as an air mechanic on Saipan.

He returned home and worked for many years as a welder at Bath Iron Works. He also had his own business selling and repairing chain saws in his home in Wiscasset.

He married Leah Nash on May 12, 1942, and they just recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary.

He was an avid salmon fly fisherman and loved hunting and camping.

He and his wife, Leah, were very thankful to all their neighbors in Wiscasset who helped them and took care of their home.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Leah Nash Nadeau, of Winthrop; son, Timothy Nadeau and his wife, Carol, of Lisbon; daughter, Susan Bixby and her husband, John F. Bixby Jr., of Buckfield; brothers, Raymond Nadeau of Bath, and Millard Nadeau of Dunedin, Fla.; sister, Geneva Nash and her husband, Elroy, of Tenants Harbor; four grandchildren, Rachel Freese of Florida, Mark Nadeau of Maine, John F. Bixby III of Maine, and Rebecca Martin of Maine; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Lawrence Nadeau; and by a sister-in-law, Sylvia Nadeau.
