NORWAY – “Across Cultures and Continents: Literature of the Indian Experience” is the title of a new “Let’s Talk About It” reading and discussion series at the Norway Memorial Library starting Monday, Sept. 19.
The facilitator for the series will be Jura Avizienis, a professor of literature at the University of Southern Maine.
This series of four readings will explore fictional writings starting with India’s colonial era to independence and into the immigrant experience of Indians in Britain and the United States.
The first book in the series will be “A Passage to India” by E.M. Forster, a classic from the colonial era, and then move to the post-colonial work of Salman Rushdie in “Midnight’s Children.” Monica Ali’s “Bricklane” (2002) weaves together the histories of Bangladesh, India and England. The final book is “Interpreter of Maladies” (1999) by Jhampa Lahiri, which is set in the United States.
The dates for the next three programs will be Oct. 10 and 31 and Nov. 21. All will be at 7 p.m. at the Norway Memorial Library.
Those needing transportation should inform the library and rides will be provided. For more information call the library at 743- 5309.
