Meetings resume
NORWAY – Oxford Chapter 168, Order of the Eastern Star, will resume meetings Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Masonic Hall on Temple Street. A 6:30 p.m. supper will precede the 7:30 meeting. The Grand Star Points will conduct a ceremony honoring the Star Points of the Oxford Chapter. All OES members are welcome.
Ranger program
PINKHAM NOTCH, N.H. – “Leave No Trace” will be featured on Wednesday, Aug. 31, as the final Wednesday Night with a Ranger program in the White Mountain National Forest this summer. Backcountry Ranger Matt Schomburg will present a slide show and share simple low-impact techniques for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages.
The programs are presented by the Forest Service at 8 p.m. Wednesdays through the summer at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center on Route 16. Programs are free and all local residents, campers and visitors are welcome.

Bridge play
NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge welcomed new duplicate players, Kay Francione and Betty Nagle, on Aug. 26. All bridge players are welcome to join the group at 9 a.m. Fridays at the Fare Share Coop Commons, 445 Main St.
Winners on Aug. 26 were: first, Woody Mercier and Anna Cormier; second, Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; third, Barbara and Paul Beegel; fourth, Les Buzzell and Larry Holmes; fifth, Nancy Farmer and Adele Bendes. Also placing were Bev Pelletier and Richard Balian.
The movement and boards are determined by the number of players. All join in getting the tables ready for the morning. Refreshments and coffee are served.

Sunshine supper
CASCO – The Sunshine Club of Webbs Mills will hold its first public supper of the season from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Crescent Lake Community Hall on Route 11. The menu will include homebaked beans, hot dogs, American chop suey, pasta, Jell-O and potato salads with coleslaw and corn bread. There will be homebaked pies for dessert and coffee or punch for beverage. The cost for adults is $6; children 12 years and under, $3; and under 5, free.
The Crescent Lake Community Hall was vandalized this summer, but repairs have been made and the club is moving forward. Funds for the new bathroom were used to do the repairs, making the bathroom upgrade still the club’s major project.

Firemen’s muster
BUCKFIELD – There will be a firemen’s muster at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 4, with the Buckfield Fire Department as host. A pig roast wil follow at noon.
Church meeting

Society program
FRYEBURG – The Fryeburg Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the American Legion Hall on Bradley Street. Delph Wood will present a program on “The History of Fryeburg Funeral Homes.” Refreshments will be served.
