Lodge to meet
CANTON – Whitney Lodge 167, AF and AM, will hold a stated meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1. The meeting will be preceded by a casserole supper at 6:30. All master Masons are welcome.
Braiding class
MEXICO – An eight-week rug braiding class will begin Tuesday, Sept. 6, at the Mexico Congregational Church. The class will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. and will be taught by Natalie Reed. FMI: 364-4079.
Trailblazers
MEXICO – The Mexico Trailblazers will begin monthly meetings for the upcoming season at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall. Anyone interested in joining the Trailblazers can attend the meeting or contact Nick Brown at 364-8665 or Gary Wentzell at 364-8110.
History of barns
BETHEL – The Bethel Historical Society annual meeting and lecture will be held Thursday, Sept. 8. A potluck supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by meeting at the Hastings Homestead, next door to the society’s Mason House.
Christi A. Mitchell, architectural historian for the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, will present a program about the history of Maine barns. The evening will conclude with a viewing of the exhibit “Barn Again! Celebrating An American Icon” at the Mason House Exhibit Hall.
Sculpture exhibit
RUMFORD – “Weaving the Colors of Space,” sculpture by Dennis Dreher, will show at Pennacook Art Center from Friday to Monday, Sept. 9 to Oct. 31. The exhibit will open with a reception from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at the gallery.
Dreher will give a brief gallery talk at 6 p.m. His glass and stainless steel constructions are complex three-dimensional paintings. Special lighting will be installed in the gallery for the show.
Pennacook Art Center is located at 82 Congress St. The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. FMI: call 364-9972.

RUMFORD – Tobacco support group meetings will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 7 and 21, at Rumford Hospital Room 351. It is sponsored by the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition. Contact Stephanie at 364-7408 with questions.
