Yard sale
OXFORD – A His Place Teen Center big Labor Day yard sale will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday, Sept. 1 to 5, by the fish market on Route 26.
Set-up will be held Wednesday, Aug. 31. Most items will be under canopies. Those who have items or want to help are asked to call Bert Rugg at 743-9503. Because of new rules at the dump, some items have to be approved before they will be accepted.
Proceeds will go toward helping with phase II of the kitchen.
The center will collect for the last yard sale planned for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 6 to 10. Anyone who has items for pickup should call Rugg or Sandy Smith at 539-2972.
His Place Teen Center is a safe, well supervised place for youth ages 11 to 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. every Friday. Admission is free. Call Rugg or check the Web at www.hisplaceteencenter.org or details.
Socrates Club
BETHEL – Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44 Adult Education will hold the next Socrates Club meeting from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Garland Chapel, West Paris Congregational Church. Society meeting
LOCKE MILLS – The Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the historical building on Main Street. Anyone is welcome.
Season opener
BRYANT POND – The monthly programs at Whitman Memorial Library will start at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8. The first guest of the season will be Wendy Newmeyer of Maine Balsam Fir Products, West Paris.
Newmeyer is a former Small Business Person of the Year and her products are sold nationwide. She will discuss her business and her products. She also plans to give out a free sample to all who attend. The free programs are open to the public.
Annual meeting
BETHEL – The Bethel Historical Society annual meeting and lecture will be held Thursday, Sept. 8. A potluck supper will be held at 6:30 p.m. followed by meeting at the Hastings Homestead, next door to the society’s Mason House.
Christi A. Mitchell, architectural historian for the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, will present a program about the history of Maine barns. The evening will conclude with a viewing of the exhibit “Barn Again! Celebrating An American Icon” at the Mason House Exhibit Hall.
