FARMINGTON – Stemming from this spring’s Share Your Heritage Workshop, the greater Farmington-Wilton Share Your Heritage team has decided to create three heritage tourism itineraries.
The group will host an open meeting to plan the first of these, titled, “Food and Fiber-Finding the Farm in Farmington.” The meeting will take place from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, at the offices of Mountain Counties Heritage, at 109 Church St.
Coverage area of the itinerary includes locations found within 30 minutes of Farmington-Wilton. All are invited to attend, and anyone who operates a food or fiber-related enterprise (farms, shops, restaurants, weavers, historical societies) are welcome to attend.
“These itineraries will be great for residents and visitors alike – but our focus will be primarily on what we want to share with visitors and how to increase the tourism dollars coming to our area,” said Bruce Hazard, Farmington-Wilton team participant and Director of Mountain Counties Heritage Inc.
The Share Your Heritage workshop was held in June at the University of Maine at Farmington and was hosted by the Maine Mountain Heritage Network. Nine five-person teams from communities across the Maine Mountain Region, including Oxford, Franklin, Somerset and Piscataquis counties convened to select their own heritage tourism-related theme and to begin shaping an itinerary consisting of three days of the most fun and informative activities found in their respective areas.
