WILTON – Wilton’s program, “Volunteers in Police Services” has been busy this summer setting up the program that will have volunteers make calls to local townspeople who have signed up for safety and wellness checks.
VIP spokesman Robert Cole has been collecting brochures and information to help communities residents of all ages. The volunteers will meet at 6 p.m. tonight, at the police department to start packaging the materials to be distributed and to set up times for the volunteers and police to start making the initial visits.
Cole has also spoken with other agencies to let them know there are volunteers available if they have children in an emergency situation and need someone to tend to them for an hour or even several hours.
All volunteers have had record checks done and there would be at least two people with the child at all times. An example would be if a parent were arrested and it took time to locate someone to assume responsibility for the child, then the volunteers would help care for the child during that process.
For more information on the project, residents may attend the September meeting or e-mail Cole at [email protected].
