AUBURN – An Androscoggin County grand jury has indicted a local man on a kidnapping charge and seven other counts.

Rontrell Jarmareal Nelson, 20, who listed an Eighth Street address, was arrested Saturday night by Lewiston police in a field off Turner Street after officers from three law enforcement agencies formed a human chain to search the area.

Grand jurors, who rose Wednesday, charged Nelson with kidnapping, criminal threatening, assault, theft by unauthorized taking and three counts of violating the condition of his release on an earlier assault charge.

The indictments allege Nelson restrained a Lewiston woman who he had earlier assaulted. He threatened her, assaulted her again and stole money from her purse, according to the indictment.

A grand jury is a group of 15 to 23 people from the community who meet every five to six weeks to consider allegations that may warrant felony charges.
