BOSCAWEN, N.H. – Edith R. Richards, 98, of Boscawen formerly of Andover, N.H., East Longmeadow, Mass., and New Vineyard, died Thursday, Sept. 1, at the Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin.

She was born in East Andover, N.H., on May 5, 1907 the daughter of G. Robert Robie and Blanche (Hersey) Robie. She grew up in East Andover and was a graduate of Proctor Academy, Andover, N.H., Class of 1925, and Plymouth Normal School (now Plymouth State University) and the city of Springfield, Mass. library training class.

She was employed as a library assistant by the Springfield City Library for 27 years. Upon retirement she moved to New Vineyard.

She resided in New Vineyard, from 1960 to 1995 when she returned to New Hampshire.

She was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Springfield, Mass. In New Vineyard she was a member of the Congregational Church, where she served for 20 years as church treasurer, Missionary Society treasurer, and Sunday School superintendent for 11 years. For many years she was secretary-treasurer of the New Vineyard Extension group.

She was predeceased by a brother, Bernard Hersey Robie of Laconia, N.H., in 1986 and a sister, Frances Robie Morse of Bath in 2001.

She is survived by two nephews, John G. Morse IV of Bath, Paul Robie of Laconia, N.H.; five nieces, Jane Morse of Bath, Frances Bowen Chelmsford, Mass., Lois Jewell of Laconia, N.H., Esther Mountfort of Yarmouth, Mary Godbout of Laconia, N.H.; a stepgrandson; stepgreat-grandchildren; grand-nephews; grand-nieces; and cousins.
