LEWISTON – Richard P. Levesque, 59, died at home Friday, Sept. 2, following a short but courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family and friends.

He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 22, 1946, to Lucien and Yvonne Levesque. He was one of four boys. He attended schools in Auburn, and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1964.

After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany and Alaska. Richard “Dick” married his childhood sweetheart, Diane J. Arsenault on April 20, 1968, after three years apart while he was in the service.

Dick was a very outgoing and fun person to be with. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, attended local sporting events and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan “even through the rotten years.” His presence brought laughter to any room and he was an “all-around, fun guy to be with.”

He was a very dedicated father, husband, partner, grandfather, son-in-law (to Emile and Blanche Arsenault), friend and employee. He spent his adult years employed by Reed Distributors and Maine Oxy.

Dick touched many lives in his 59 years and has many childhood, lifelong friends.

He is survived by his partner, Carole (Small) Levesque; his children, Mindy and Cyndie Levesque, Melissa and David Chappell, and Stephanie and John Golino; his brothers, Armand and Ronald Levesque; seven grandchildren, Brea, Jason, Keith, Jodi, Jimmy, Alexis, and Annika; his brother-in-law and friend, Donald Morency; sisters-in-law Anita Morency, Patsy Fose, Terry Levesque, Pat Levesque and Angie Levesque; and many nieces and nephews, Shannon, Shara, Tricia, David, Michelle, Mark, Laurie and Emily.

He was predeceased by his wife, Diane J. Levesque; parents, Lucien and Yvonne Levesque; his brother, Robert J. Levesque; his nephew, Michael J. Levesque; and many aunts and uncles.

The family would like to extend special thanks to family and friends who spent the last few weeks and days checking in on him and us; the very friendly staff at the Central Maine Medical Center radiology department, for making his weekly trips “as pleasant as possible;” Dr. Nicholette Erickson, for her patience and kindness; and Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, for their help with the last few days of his life.
