Mothers to meet

PERU – The Mexico Mothers’ Club will hold its first meeting of the season on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the home of Janet Fysh at Worthley Pond.

The hostess will serve lunch at noon and a business meeting will follow.

Free cookout

DIXFIELD – The Poodunck Snowmobile Club will have a free cookout for all members and their families at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Webb River Valley Sportsmen’s Clubhouse, Canton Point Road. Burgers, dogs, salads and drinks will be provided. All new members welcome.

Bowlers practice

RUMFORD – A Pine Tree Bowling League meeting and practice session will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at Oxford Lanes, Route 2. New bowlers and teams are welcome.

GOP speaker

HARTFORD – State Sen. Peter S. Mills, a candidate for governor in 2006, will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, Sept. 13, meeting of the Oxford County Republican Committee at the Hartford Town Hall, Hartford Center, Route 140. There will be 5:30 p.m. social hour, dinner at 6:30, followed by a business meeting and speaker. All area Republicans are welcome.

Society guest

DIXFIELD – The first fall meeting of the Dixfield Historical Society will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Charter Meeting Room. Billie Gammon will return with “The Silly Story of Herself” – a program she has presented to many college students. Members are also reminded to return all summer raffle tickets as the drawing will take place that night. Refreshments will be served, and the public is invited.

RUMFORD – Stephens High School class of 1943 will meet for a luncheon at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Teena’s Restaurant.
