LISBON – Selectmen have authorized the sale of the former Lisbon Village Library building by sealed bid for a minimum price of $85,000. Bids are due Oct. 14.
The board also approved making a Water Department debt bond payment of $166,248.55. However, selectmen failed to agree on a five-year repayment schedule proposed by the water commissioners, saying they preferred it be repaid in three to four years.
A decision was tabled until there is more information on revenue projections. Although the bond was obtained by the town for the Water Department, it is to be repaid by water users, rather than general taxation.
Selectmen also approved a water commission request to bond $393,000 that was approved by town meeting in 2003.
In other business, a draft of proposed town park regulations that would include a policy on uses and placement of items on all town-owned property, was presented for review.
After tabling action on bids for a new generator for the Lisbon Falls Fire Department at their last meeting, selectmen agreed to instead use a mobile generator available from the treatment plant.
Appeals Board member Heather Sult’s resignation was accepted.
Selectmen were impressed by a colorful PowerPoint demonstration of the successful children’s summer reading program by the Library Department. The six-week program, funded by the Friends of the Library group, had 117 participants who read a total of 1,900 books.
