Lodge degree

BUCKFIELD – Evening Star Lodge 147 of Buckfield will present its annual “Quarry Degree” on Saturday, Sept. 10, at Mount Marie off King Hill Road in South Paris.

The Master Mason Degree will be conferred on three candidates beginning at 3 p.m. Following the work of the day, there will be a social time and potluck meal.

All Master Masons are invited. This is an outdoor degree; dress accordingly.

New church year

PARIS – First Universalist Church, 36 Pine St., South Paris, will continue its second century of ministry by beginning a new church year with the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Sept. 11.

Marilyn Hammond will be the worship leader and her sermon is titled “Being a Spiritual Community of Meaning.” Jeannie Whittemore will be the soloist, Forest Perkins will be the organist and the Sunday school will be directed by Renee Wales.

Brunch will follow this service in Good Cheer Hall.

Everyone is welcome.

Community day

OXFORD – Oxford Community Day will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. There will be old-fashion games of skill, a radar pitch machine run by the Oxford police and a cribbage tournament for young and old.

There will be an apple pie competition, fries, hot dogs, baked goods and carnival treats as well as a duck race to the finish line at 1 p.m. at the Community Center. For more information, call Pam at 539-4563 or Lois at 539-2998.
