Watching scenes of the human misery in the flooded South, I wondered what ordinary citizens can do. Yes, they need money for the short-term, but what about the long-term? These families will be refugees for a very long time.

What if clusters of small towns came together all over the U.S.? What if churches, town officials and ordinary citizens got involved? What if we had fund-raisers? What if all these clusters of towns adopted one refugee family? We could pay for their transportation to our towns, find shelter, food and clothes. We could give them a fresh start.

We do this for immigrant refugees, why not for our own American refugees?
