I have been a resident of Auburn most of my life. I was born here and attended all my years in school in this city.

I suffered an aneurysm and was told I had only a 5 percent chance to live. I survived but was left disabled. I am on so many pills and oxygen and under doctors’ care. I can hardly walk without oxygen all the time. I got a wheelchair to get around. I am more or less homebound.

With this wheelchair, I can go out for fresh air and medical things I need. I decided to take a ride with the wheelchair to see my son. Just near his home, my wheelchair went out of control because of the damaged sidewalk. The accident caused me to go over, injuring my arms, legs, face and body. My medicine causes me to bruise easily.

My wheelchair almost ended on top of me, and to get it repaired, it would cost me $828, which I don’t have, so I am going to lose it. I called Auburn and told them about the accident and how bad the sidewalk was. They sent me a letter saying they wouldn’t pay the damage. The sidewalk has since been repaired.

I served in World War II, brought up my family, had this aneurysm, and now I will lose my wheelchair, the only thing I can have some enjoyment with.

My opinion is Auburn should have their insurance pay for it.
