RUMFORD – Clayton F. Swett Sr., 86, of Dixfield, died late Friday evening, Sept. 9, at Rumford Community Hospital.
He was born in Carthage on April 9, 1919, a son of Roy C. and Mildred (Call) Swett. He received his education in Carthage schools and graduated from Dirigo High School.
On June 29, 1941, he married Arlene Berry.
He worked at Stowell-MacGregor for several years, and worked many years at Diamond Match Co.
He was the oldest current member of King Hiram Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Arlene, of Dixfield; two sons, Clayton Swett Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Carthage, and Jeffrey D. Swett of Sanford, Fla.; a daughter, Priscilla Sayce of Auburn; four grandchildren, Jason Swett of Carthage, Julie Geoghegan of Windsor, Vt., Scott Sayce of Dixfield, and Russell Sayce of St. Petersburg, Fla.; six great-grandchildren, Troy, Trevor, Clay and Kyle Swett, all of Carthage, Crystal Sayce of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Elijah Geoghegan of Windsor, Vt.
He was predeceased by a brother, R. Douglas Swett, in 1990.
