Service night
LEWISTON – American Legion Post 22, 190 Bates St., will hold a service night at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in addition to the regular post meeting at 7 p.m.
Joseph Paradis, trustee and service officer, said Mike Collins of the Veterans Center will be the guest speaker. All veterans are asked to attend.
Paradis said the post will set aside an hour at 6 p.m. to serve the many veterans who are still asking how to have their name placed in Veterans Memorial Park. Paradis said donations will also be accepted for any veteran who may wish to have his name on a granite bench.

Scout recruitment
POLAND – Cub Scout Pack 125 will hold a recruitment night for boys in grades one through five from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at Poland Community School open house. There is a $20 registration fee.
Seniors cookout
LEWISTON – The Lewiston Senior Citizens will meet at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Multi-Purpose Center. There will be a cookout of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, dessert and beverages for a donation of $3 a person at 12:30. Anyone age 50 or over is welcome.
Blood drive
LEWISTON – The Friday, Sept. 16, blood drive at Central Maine Medical Center will be dedicated to LifeFlight nurse-paramedic and Lewiston firefighter Shawn Metayer, who was critically injured in a motorcycle crash in early August.
The drive will be held from 6:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CMMC Chairmen’s Rooms, located on the ground level of the 12 High Street Medical Office Building adjacent to CMMC.
Anyone who would like to donate blood is urged to make an appointment by calling 795-2470. Registrations can also be completed online at www.bloodpartners.org/cmmc.
Blood drive participants will be given a chance to win Red Sox tickets.
Seniors speaker
LEWISTON – The Rev. Daniel Greenleaf, pastor of Holy Cross Church, will be the featured speaker at the first seniors meeting of the season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at the church. The program will be an open forum concerning the church’s position on the issues.
Greenleaf, a native of Biddeford, was ordained to the priesthood on May 13, 1995. He attended the Seminary at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., and the Anglican in Rome. Prior to his parish ministry, he taught religion at St. Dominic Regional High School from 1999 to 2004.
All seniors of the area, 50 years and over, are invited. A social will follow and a light lunch will be served.
Car show
DURHAM – The Yankee Cruisers will sponsor the annual Bike, Car and Truck Show from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, rain or shine, at the Durham Elementary School. Registration will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., with voting from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. when awards will be given. General admission is $2; under 12, free. Sodality meeting
LEWISTON – The Ladies of St. Ann Sodality of Holy Family Parish will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, in the parish hall. The speaker will be from SeniorsPlus and will discuss changes in Medicare. Refreshments will be served and there will be door prizes.
Family life
AUBURN – Modern Woodmen of America Camp 8794 will have a luncheon and family life activity from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at the Village Inn Restaurant, 165 High St. Auburn. Members of Modern Woodmen and their families are invited.
The cost is $8 a person. Amy MacMillan of SeniorsPlus will speak about the Medicare Part D drug discount card at 11:15 a.m.
A drawing will be held for a family door prize. Purchase tickets at Modern Woodmen of America, 67 Minot Ave., from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Center programs
LEWISTON – Wisdom’s Center, a drop-in center for women at 97 Blake St., began its seventh year this month, with the following activities: informal discussions, knitting, light crafts, coffee, doughnuts and conversation, needlepoint and plastic canvas, crochet, book discussions, amateur painting and special programs led by the staff.
Instructors and materials are available for all programs, which are free. Call 784-0155 for more information.
Wisdom’s Center is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. All women, regardless of age, history, belief or circumstances, are welcome to drop in to chat with other women, participate in an activity or meet with a staff member.
Support offered
LEWISTON- Beacon Hospice will offer an evening bereavement support group starting Wednesday, Oct. 5, for six consecutive Wednesdays ending Nov. 9.
All sessions will be held at Beacon Hospice, 55 Lisbon St. The free sessions will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The group will be limited to eight.
Adults who have experienced the death of a loved one will have the opportunity to share and learn with other members. The group will be facilitated by Heather Thompson, bereavement coordinator at the hospice. The closed group is intended to provide a safe environment for sharing thoughts and feelings, expressing sadness and pain and beginning to find hope and healing.

Bridge results
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 6 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Martine Begert; second, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; tied at third, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin with David Lock and Leslie Lord; fifth, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau.
Flight B winners were: first, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; second, Roger Briggs and Larry Fortier. Another game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. A partner is guaranteed.
The club also met on Sept. 7 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners were: first, Leslie Lord and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Alberta Turner and Lucille Bilodeau; third, Misha Tomic and Leslie Buzzell; fourth, Jim Flanagan and Lucille Theriault.
The 2005 Instant Matchpoint Game will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Schooner Estates.
