LITTLETON, N.H. (AP) – Things are returning to normal at Littleton Regional Hospital, after a fire on the roof during the weekend prompted officials to evacuate the facility.

The fire broke out around 3 p.m. Saturday on the roof over the boiler/mechanical room. Firefighters from Littleton and surrounding communities prevented the fire from spreading.

Under the hospital’s disaster plan, all 19 patients, including a new mother and her child, were evacuated from the hospital, said spokeswoman Gail Clark. Some were discharged and others transferred to other hospitals.

Clark said the hospital’s emergency room stayed open during the incident and the rest of the hospital was back in business by 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Clark said investigators believe the fire was related to the emergency generator exhaust chimney. The hospital’s medical office building saw smoke and minor water damage.
