PORTLAND – Hanley Ramirez, Brandon Moss, Jeremy West and Scott Youngbauer all blasted home runs Sunday to power the Portland Sea Dogs to a 9-2 victory over the Trenton Thunder to advance to the Eastern League finals.
Wade Miller allowed two runs in 2 2/3 innings in a major-league rehab start, but relievers Chris Smith, Denney Tomori, Randy Beam and Craig Hansen combined for 6-plus innings of two-hit, scoreless relief.
The Sea Dogs collected 15 hits and limited the Thunder to four. Smith earned the victory with 3 1/3 innings in relief.
It is the third time in franchise history that the Sea Dogs have advanced to the Eastern League finals – first since 1997. Portland will face the Akron Aeroes – who defeated the Altoona Curve 6-4 on Sunday – at Hadlock Field starting at 6 p.m. The first two games of the best-of-five series will be played in Portland.
Tickets are currently on sale at the Hadlock Field box office, and range between $3 and $8. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500. The ticket office opens at 9 a.m.
