MONMOUTH – Ben Seefieldt used his head Monday.
The Monmouth senior scored on a header off a throw-in by Nate Armstrong with 6:16 left in the game to give Monmouth a 1-0 victory over Mountain Valley in an MVC boys’ soccer matchup Monday.
The goal almost didn’t count, either. After grazing Seefeldt’s head, Mountain Valley keeper Bryan Canwell grabbed the ball. As he fell, Canwell allowed the ball to cross the plane of the goal, giving Monmouth the goal.
Monmouth (3-1) outshot Mountain Valley 29-5 in the game, and keeper Scott Ogden needed to make just one save for the shutout.
Bryan Conwell made nine saves in net for the Falcons (0-3-1).
Georges Valley 2, Lisbon 0
LISBON – Elisha Sprague scored a goal and added an assist to lead Georges Valley to a 2-0 win against Lisbon in MVC soccer action Monday. Joeri Klompenhouwer netted the first goal unassisted for Georges Valley.
Lisbon (1-1-1) keeper Mike Wilkins made 12 saves despite the loss.
Hall-Dale 6, Carrabec 3
NORTH ANSON – Jay Skilling and Fernando Barictos each scored a pair of goals as Hall-Dale handed Carrabec its first home loss in two years by a count of 6-3 in MVC soccer action Monday. The loss also snapped a 14-game unbeaten streak for the Cobras (1-1-1) going back to last season.
Christopher Leclair turned in eight saves to notch the win in net for the Bulldogs (2-1). , while Hugo Liberti matched him with eight od his own for Carrabec.
Telstar 3, Wiscasset 1
BETHEL – Rodrigo Silva scored a pair of goals to lift Telstar to a 3-1 win over Wiscasset in MVC soccer action Monday.
Gerard Murphy converted a relay from Max Meader in the first half for the only Redskin (1-1-1) goal of the contest.
With the game knotted up at the half, Louis Thornton booted the tie-breaker and eventual game-winner for the Rebels (2-2).
Goalie Zach Hartman had five saves for Wiscasset, while Stephen Scotti turned back seven shots for Telstar in the win.
