Jazz workshop

MEXICO – Expressive Movement Performing Arts Center Inc has announced “A Jazz Workshop” featuring New York City choreographers Leah Madigan and Sheri Godfrey.

The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Mountain Valley Middle School and is open to dancers ages 9 through adult.

Leah Madigan is a former dancer of Expressive Movement and is a company dancer with Jaqui Young’s professional dance troupe, Push Factor, as well as the Junior Street Funk instructor at Danzjam competitions/conventions throughout the United States.

Sheri Godfrey, a former troupe member with Push Factor, has a career that includes extensive performance and choreograph. She has appeared on “The Guiding Light” and was a featured dancer in the movie, “Chicago.”

Cancer walk

RUMFORD – Sandee Welch, Exalted Ruler at the Rumford Elks 862, is chairing the Maine Children’s 19th Cancer Walk on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Hosmer Field. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m.

Collection envelopes are located at the River Valley Grill, IV Corners, Hannaford and Z & Z Variety. Anyone who raises $25 will receive a T-shirt. The monies raised go toward psychosocial support, charity care and research.

Benefit dinner

PERU – A benefit dinner for the House of Peace, a nonprofit abused women’s shelter, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Peru American Legion. There will be a Chinese auction, bake sale, door prizes and raffles.

Community lunch

PERU – The Families in Crisis Task Force will hold a community luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at the Rockemeka Grange, 92 Peru Center Road. The menu will include chicken and gravy, potatoes, green beans and dessert. Donations will be accepted.

Adult ed hours

MEXICO – Region 9 Adult Education Learning Center announces that the nighttime hours will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 20. Anyone wishing to work toward a General Educational Development certificate, high school diploma or upgrade skills for college is welcome.

High school students who are over 17 and need to make up credits for graduation are also welcome with a signed permission form or letter from their high school.

The school will also run a local bus service for daytime students. To arrange pick-up, the student must first enroll in the school. At enrollment, bus arrangements can be made. Bus service will begin the week of Oct. 3.

Trailblazers

MEXICO – The Mexico Trailblazers will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, downstairs at the Mexico Town Hall. New members are welcome. For more information, contact Nick Brown at 364-8665 or Gary Wentzell at 364-8110.
