LEWISTON – The Lewiston/Auburn Optimist Club will hold a Safety Fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Lever’s Day Care.
The event will be held rain or shine, and is free and open to all young people regardless of age. Levers Day Care is located on Mollison Way in the Fairgrounds Business Park.
The fair will feature a variety of safety topics for all ages of young people from car seat and seatbelt use to proper bike and roller blade safety.
Educational information will be available on a variety of safety and good health topics such as Internet safety, how to make a child ID and DNA kit, healthy eating tips from Healthy Androscoggin and Tobacco Free Maine.
Children will also be able to meet Lewy, the official mascot of the Lewiston MAINEiacs hockey team. There will be a variety of drawings for prizes, including a bike.
The L/A Optimists will also collect donations of cash and new school supplies to benefit the Optimist Hurricane Relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
The club is a local volunteer civic organization committed to enriching the lives of young people in the greater Lewiston/Auburn area. Founded in 1976, the L/A Optimists have been a “friend to youth” by supporting and sponsoring scholarships, mentoring programs and other projects to help young people be better citizens.
