BOSTON (AP) – The Red Sox purchased the contract of outfielder Adam Hyzdu from Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday and unconditionally released left-hander Matt Perisho.
Hyzdu had been working out in Arizona in case he was needed. He will serve as a backup outfielder for Boston, which lost Gabe Kapler to a ruptured Achilles’ tendon on Wednesday.
Hyzdu was 0-for-6 in five games for Boston earlier this season and 3-for-20 for San Diego while spending most of his time in Triple-A.
Perisho appeared in one game for Boston, allowing a run and one hit without recording an out.
