I read with excitement the news on Sept. 14 on the front page about Republican Peter Cianchette’s announcement to run for governor in 2006. As a young person, Cianchette’s candidacy should be particularly refreshing to people of my generation in Maine. His wide background in small business and state Legislature experience should serve as an inspiration to all of us to give back to our communities and help make Maine a better place to live.
I’m particularly encouraged by Cianchette’s fourth point in his eight-point plan: “Lower property taxes by mandating municipalities give every extra state dollar to taxpayers.” By allowing us to keep more of our own money, Cianchette would help solve Maine’s problem of young people consistently leaving the state year after year, month after month.
I encourage Mainers of all ages and political backgrounds to support Peter Cianchette for governor in 2006.
