Food network seeks another ‘Star’

Cable’s Food Network has already found “The Next Food Network Star” – two of them, in fact. Earlier this year, viewers chose Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh to headline their own show, “Party Line with Dan and Steve,” which premieres Sunday.

But once that show goes on the air, Smith and McDonagh will be current Food Network stars. Thus the search is on for the next “Next Food Network Star.”

Following the premiere of “Party Line” Sunday morning, the network will announce an open casting call for a second edition of the show, which looks for undiscovered culinary (and TV) talent in the restaurants and home kitchens of America. Would-be contestants will have until Wednesday, Oct. 12 to submit a three-minute videotape to the network pitching themselves as host of a show on the channel’s how-to “In the Kitchen” block (applications will be available Sunday at FoodNetwork.com).

‘Simple Rules’ star Sagal gets ‘Lost’

Katey Sagal will guest-star on an episode of “Lost” early this season, but her role for the moment is as cryptic as the meaning of Hurley’s numbers.

The former “8 Simple Rules” star will be playing a character named Helen in the third episode this season, scheduled for Oct. 5. It seems more likely that she would appear in the show’s flashback scenes; higher-profile guest stars were primarily used that way in “Lost’s” first season.

It also appears that the flashback for the episode, titled “Orientation,” will concern Locke (Terry O’Quinn). Kevin Tighe (“Murder One”), who appeared last season as Locke’s father, Cooper, will reprise his role.
