MINOT – Roland and Noella Hemond of Minot celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Aug. 28. An open house was held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their farm in Minot, where many friends and relatives came to congratulate the couple.

Over 150 people attended the party, enjoying the day, talking with old friends and relatives and having refreshments.

Mr. Hemond, son of Alphonse and RoseAnne Plante Hemond of Minot and the former Noella Ferland, daughter of Cyrille and Roseanna Gauthier Ferland of Poland, were married Sept. 2. 1940, at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. They have lived in Minot since 1942, buying their farm, where they now live, in 1945.

They have owned and operated Hemond’s Dairy Farm, running the farm and delivering milk from 1945 until the dairy was sold in 1987. After the dairy was sold, the farm was renamed R.E. Hemond Farm. Mrs. Hemond has been the bookkeeper for over 60 years and Mr. Hemond still continues to drive his tractors and also oversees the farm operations.

They are very active in the Maple Grove Cemetery Association, Mr. Hemond as president and Mrs. Hemond as treasurer. Mr. Hemond has spent many hours improving the cemetery, making it one of the best looking in the area.

Three of the four attendants in the wedding party attended the celebration and they are John Hemond, his brother, who was an usher, Germaine Ferland Galipeau, her sister, who was a bridesmaid, and Leo Ferland, her brother, who was an usher. Unable to attend was Rita Hemond Bertram, a bridesmaid, who lives in Florida.

The couple has nine children, Lucille Hodsdon of Norway, Jeanne Letourneau of Minot, Rolande Poland of Boswell, Ind., Rosalie Aikman of Poland, Richard Hemond of Minot and Ann French of Minot. Three children are deceased. The event was arranged by the Hemond children.
