LEBANON, N.H. (AP) – A private school and the Catholic Diocese of Manchester are refusing to budge on a dispute that apparently will come to a head Monday.
The Montessori Discovery School’s lease in the old Holy Redeemer Church has expired, and the diocese has told it to be out of the building by Monday.
The school appeared set to remain in place, and the church was ready to go to court to get it to leave.
In June, a development firm reached a tentative agreement with the diocese to buy the church building and the parish hall, where the Discovery School holds classes. The developer wanted to tear down the church, build several homes on part and sell the parish hall to another Lebanon church.
Now, the developer is having second thoughts because the city zoning board rejected the plan and the diocese says it has another potential buyer waiting to see what happens.
