RUMFORD – Corey Wilson scored the only goal of the game unassisted at the 33:14 mark of the first half to give Mountain Valley a 1-0 victory over Winthrop in a boys’ soccer matchup on Saturday.

Bryan Canwell made 12 saves to earn the shutout for Mountain Valley (2-3-1).Mike Gingras had 19 saves for Winthrop.

NYA 4, St. Doms 1

YARMOUTH – Peter Lowell and Rob Carpenter each scored a goal in the first half to power North Yarmouth Academy to a 4-1 victory over St. Doms in boys’ soccer on Saturday.

NYA (3-0-1) also received a goal apiece from Scott Carpenter and Taylor Gorman in the second half. Alex Pilitsis made four saves in net for the Panthers.

Tom Gosselin netted the lone goal for the Saints (1-3-1) off a pass from Jimmy Moreau.

Football

Hebron 19, BBN 8

HEBRON – Algerson Andre caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Jose Gumbs as Hebron defeated Buckingham Brown and Nichols 19-8 in a high school football contest on Saturday.

Gumbs also scored on a five-yard run for Hebron (1-0).

BBN’s lone score came when quarterback Adam Farkes scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter.

Field hockey

Oxford Hills 2, EL 1

SOUTH PARIS – Tia Pratt scored the eventual game-winner as Oxford Hills nipped Edward Little 2-1 in KVAC field hockey action on Saturday.

The Vikings (3-3) drew first blood with an unassisted goal from Teira Durgin in the first half to put Oxford Hills up 1-0 at the midpoint.

The lone Red Eddies (0-5) goal was tapped in by Katie Perkins on an assist from Bre Wing.

Mary Martin made five saves in goal for Edward Little, while Aleksys Pike turned back seven shots for Oxford Hills.

Girls’ soccer

Winthrop 1, Mt. Abram 0

WINTHROP – Kaley Ball scored the only goal of the game on assists from Ali Dick and Emilie Knight to lead Winthrop to a 1-0 victory over Mt. Abram in a girls’ soccer matchup on Saturday.

Katie Pushard made seven saves in net for Winthrop (3-2-1).

Mt. Abram (4-1-1) goaltender Brianna Wilkins had four saves.

Dirigo 3, Wiscasset 1

WISCASSET – Katherine Gagne scored two goals and added an assist to lead Dirigo to a 3-1 triumph over Wiscasset in girls’ soccer action on Saturday.

Shannon Daley also scored for Dirigo.

Dirigo goaltender CiCi Chow made 14 saves.

Jessie Matzell scored the lone goal for Wiscasset unassisted. Wiscasset outshot Dirigo 21-9.
